  • would any size turbo make a diff?

i was wondering if any size turbo would make a differance on hp.
wouldnt a small turbo be better than no turbo at all?
im refering to my 92 dohc.
also to put a turbo on my motor, would i have to buy bigger injectors, and fuel management program,ect.ect.ect.or will the motor be fine the way it is?

better question for the "Boost" section of the forum. Also try the search feature.. it has been brought up a few times.

Turbo sizes make a huge difference in the way your engine will respond. A small turbo would spool up really fast and low in the rpm range, but run out of steam in the upper rpms and basically become a restriction in your exhaust. A turbo that is matched to your engines needs will spool a little higher in the rpm range, have plenty of boost, and will keep in it's efficiency map, which is where it makes the most boost without generating excess heat. Excess heat kills performance since the air is less dense. Too large of a turbo will spool high in the rpm range, but have a buttload of boost, but it won't be that streetable or disired for a street car because of having to rev the snot out of it to get into boost. Go to the library and check out books on turboing cars, or amazon or the like, and check out Corky Bells "Maximum Boost", or another book called "Turbocharging, Supercharging and Nitrous Oxide". Also if you run a lot of boost, you will have to strengthen up your bottom end and get forged pistons to take the abuse.

Oh, and I concur with Shane. (who responded faster then me )

After doing some looking around i think the Garret GT3271 turbo would be a great turbo for the DOHC's. Depending on what your looking to spend this turbo can be had for under $800.

I have a T04E super 60 and at my elevation it has some lag.
