  • 3.4l Crate Motor on the way!!!! Any Suggestions??

Just found your forum late last night...2:30a.m. Sooo happyy!!!!
Bought a Crate motor on ebay for $900.00 Shipped to the door. Mine now has a little extra mist vapor in the cold morning and hints of antifreeze in it. I was just going to pull it down and do the heads and gaskets in the frame. But felt like the way I drive it may just blow out the bottom end. 158,000 plus on the factory motor. When I bought the car several years ago the milage was at 67,000. I was lucky when I found it and Love it to death. It drives like a dream. And a nightmare for others.(Numerous excessive speed tickets.) Gieco loves me?
Anyway thanks to some listings here in the forums I found one of two crate motors on the Bay site. I was looking for input....(MILD) for possible upgrades or performance options that maybe available before "Doing the deed" of the motor transplant.
I found alot of information here but just looking for some upgrades or updates that a home Mechanic can get done without explaning to the other half why it is I need a 3500.00 loan?
Kudos on the forum and heres the motor link for any questioners.

As stated just looking for some mild updates as it is my daily driver to and fro the work place.

    Love my Pontiac!!!

The first thing you should do when you get the engine is shake your finger at the distributor plug and tell it to be good. You should do as many searches as you can in the performance section for DOHC there are alot of threads from mild to wild that you can do. Some guys change out the tstat to a lower temp and get the corresponding chip to match it not sure if there is support for your OBD system though ( i have obd1 so have never looked beyond that). You could do a port and polish on the upper and lower intake as you will have to transplant it anyway. there are lighter lifters on the WOTtech store but you have to go inside your new engine, might as well get the springs if you do that. there are underdrive crank pulleys you can get but hard to find now. google 'iceburg' alternator if your old one is due to be changed out (alternatorparts.com), if you're putting a serious sound system in there. you could relocate the ICM/coils to the passenger brace and put better plug wires on it, the old ones are probably at the end of their life. Don't put platinum plugs in it, these engines like their delcos... put a manual in there if its an auto! or maybe not... better yet sounds about the best time for a turbo, all new and fresh... Take pictures of this and write it up for, us we like pictures; especially of new crate LQ1's ( lucky bastard ). good luck with the wife.
