  • Concerning my headers...

OK, so I got on this morning and found a half dozen PMs asking about my headers. So I think the best thing to do is just make a thread to explain what interested people need to know. Also, sorry to RedZMonte for kind of hikacking his thread.

So the headers are currently equal length with 32" primaries, so they would be considered long tube headers. All the problems come from the rear bank. The guy who designed them didn't listen to a word I said about how they had to be leak free and needed to be removable. He got the first part completely wrong and the second part, well I got them out, but I never want to have to do it again.

The biggest problem with the design as it stands is you would have to have a manual transmission. And even then, to install them, you would have to have the intermediate shaft off the transmission when you put them in the car, and to do that the bracket that bolts to the block and supports the shaft would have to be out, and to able to get to the bolts for it the alternator has to be out. And even then it will be a huge PITA to wedge the aluminum shaft housing tube through the headers once you've got them on the engine. The headers are not coated right now, but if you had them coated and installed them as they sit, you'd end up scratching the shit out of them trying to put the transmission back together. I'm not trying to scare anyone off by saying this, just want you to know the current problems with them, and why they need to be redesigned.

Second big design flaw is that the front and rear banks do not combine until they get under the car. The front bank is designed to run through the factory downpipe slot between the firewall and steering rack. The rear bank, and this is more of the design flaws, runs through my cradle which now has a 3 inch hole punched in it reinforeced with a 3 inchpipe welded into the space to replace the structure. I'm pretty sure no one is going to want to do this to their car, which is why the rear bank and how they combine needs to be redesigned.

I will take some pictures this afternoon and post therm up this evening. Unfortunaely my digicam was lost a couple weeks ago so I'll have to use my camcorder's snapshot feature (not the best quality), but I also made a video about the headers too, so I'll post up clips of that as well.

I've got the camcorder footage, but it's in .mp4 format. I need to convert it to something that everyone can watch.

That video is 5:20 long, so Youtube is gay. Probably doesn't understand .mp4 or something stupid.

What about some of the other video posting sites people use? I know you can post videos on fquick. Ok, scratch that, they say:

Acceptable filetypes include: .avi, .divx, .flv, .mov, .mpg, mpeg, .rm, .ram, .wmv
No mp4 They said you can't do cell phone videos either since their converter doesn't recognize it.

Thanks for the offers, guys. I'm going to bring the headers home and make a new video tomorrow and NOT use my camcorders crappy memory card reconding mode that makes these stupid .mp4 files.
