  • How good is the 3.4 DOHC

In terms of power how good is the 1994 3.4 DOHC....how much power can it take and how good is the aftermarket for it

Next to nothing for bolt on aftermarket for these engines. It's a 3.8L world.

as for making power... its great but very expensive as very very little exists out there... and even less as the months and years pass.

a few of my perf parts such as underdrive pulley and tuner are no longer sold. few people sell ported TB's or intake parts either now.

if you cant do much of the work yourself, then it will be a very difficult battle to get any extra power out of it. for the same cost and effort you could get 3 times the power out of a 3.8L engine or even the 3x00

its sad... its a dieing engine... but i still loveit... has a great sound/tone, revs nice

mostly custom stuff for this motor.. if you have it running well it runs great.. I ran out of things to do to mine so the only thing left was turbo or port heads/intakes/custom headers.... Glad i went the turbo route.. 7psi 290HP 270TQ to the wheels.. TimG on 10psi has 325hp and 350tq to the wheels.. mine is daily driven for 2-3yrs now... its faster from a roll on then my 2004 WRX STI.... it depends how mechanically inclined you are..

If you want to know the N/A possibilities, I'm making arond 275HP on mine. Once my headers are fixed and I can properly tune it, I should be close to 300HP. But then I have every mod that was ever sold for the engine including a couple customer one of my own. It was not a cheap venture, either.
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

The potential is definitely there. It's just costs a pretty penny.

I had so many mods on my 96 Monte, that when it finally died on me, I tried VERY VERY hard to find me another. Being determined I wanted to take it to the limit, and forced induction would have been in the works. But nothing in my price range/location/the options I wanted ended it.

And yes, quite possibly the best V6 sound (check it out at my FQuick)

Yeah this is prob the best sounding v6 gm has made in many years.
Boost wise this engine can make lot more power then a 3800 at way less pressure. The engine has alot potential just cost alot unless you can do the work your self.I worked at a race shop for a few years and worked on my parts on the side. I cant wait to finish tuning and get it on a dyno. But I need to solve my belt slip issues first.
