I think the exhaust ports are different. I dont think they match up.

Ports won't match, but you can swap to the later heads and intakes.

I HIGHLY recommend swaping to the 96-97 heads

          -higher compression & more efficient

          Thats what I use...

Just curious, what is the compression ratio for the 96-97 heads? I thought they were 9.75-1 compression but I heard someone say they were closer to 10-1. Sorry for going off topic.

it's been so long since i have looked at the specs but iirc 96-97 is 9.7:1 and 91-95 is 9.5:1.

And more if you use the 96-97 heads with the 95 and older style pistons, especially on a 91-93 3.4 DOHC with the manual.

David are you saying that the pistons from a 91-93 dropped into my 96 block will increase my compression ratio?
I dont know what this means but "ASS HATS" is funny

Thats news to me. 9.25:1 for 91-95, 9.5:1 for the 91-93 manual cars (different pistons). The older pistons and the newer pistons probably won't change compression but I haven't cced both to verify. I think the compression to gained from the heads alone, which are 51.5cc vs 54cc for 91-95 style.

While the 96+ have a .040 dome, they also have more valve relief cut out. This is why I guess they are about the same compression wise.

                      Exactly Ben,

The original piston in the 96-97 engine have differences in depth. You can tell just by looking at them. The compresion is increased with the old piston design BUT I found you got to be careful when buying them because I found that some companys make one style for even the older 3.4 dohc engine's just varying in the dia. but with the depth and top of a 96-97 piston, which sucks.

By my calculations, using 96-97 heads on a 91-95 automatic will go from 9.25:1 to 9.57:1. The rest is from the 96+ piston. 54cc head 3.1cc piston relief for the 91-95 auto, 3.700" gasket bore and .060" thickness. 0 deck height for the piston. Making it 51.5cc like the 96 head requires the piston have 2cc relief for 9.71:1 compression.
