as i stated in the retard timing threrad i just finished the cam timing on my cutlass and it runs great i noticed alittle lower rpm power loss but that was to be expected.. the upper rpms were much better.. the idle is decentally lopey, but on first crank up the car dosent want to stay running very well it cranks fine but if i do not give it alittle gas a couple of times the idle will start jumping up and down and eventually the car will die..... after i drive the car and come to a stop there is no problem at all.. i was just wondering if any one elses car did any thing similar to this and if it was normal and if there was a way to stop it.. or am i just gtoing to have to deal with it.. witch really isent that big of a deal

i just finished mine as well, but you knew that from "our thread" and mine has a lopey idle too but it stays running just fine.. and doesn't want to die out at all. i can't wait to road test. but i need trailing arms first

When I did the -13* on the exhaust side on the very first fire up it ran like shit. Idled with an enormous lope and tried to stall a lot. 15 mins of runtime cured all of that. It didnt even really lope after that, just ran a bit rough at idle compared to stock. When I went 16* it would lope at idle and if left idling for 5 mins it would develop a nasty lope and after 10 minutes of idle, with no throttle given during that period, would be prone to stalling. Recently went back to 13* for emissions purposes.1991 Grand Prix GTP LX9swap/Getrag 284 --- SOLD =(

I havent ran a stock chip for a while....but I do know on the 91-93 cars the idle fueling is really rich, even for stock. With this cam timing, you need a little less fuel at idle so the problem could be the tuning. Other culprit with these engines is the O2 sensor. On a 94, its heated so that really shouldn't be it. The non heated ones don't like idle until you drive for a bit and get it hot. Then its fine.
So im not sure if it will fix itself completely, but if it dies only when its cold from idling...I would say just dont let it sit there and idle for that long without driving around first.Ben
