  • underdrive pulley questions

I just recently installed a new alternator and while I installed my FFP underdrive pulley. I cant tell a difference that the pulley made but now when the is hot and if I'm idling for more than 30 seconds I'm not showing a charge on my volt meter. Is this normal or did I get yet another crap alternator from autozone.

I went through 9 on my old 83 Honda Prelude before I got a good one that would last longer then a month from Autozone... Their quality control seems to be almost non existent IMHO.

This is number 5 for me. I was going to buy a new AC Delco alt. tomorrow at work, with my discount it's actually cheaper than the duracrap parts

ever since I put an autozone alt. on the car it always put out low voltage when it was 13.4v rolloing down the highway and 12.8-13.0v idling. my car had a delco reman alt on it when I bought it, a missing splash sheild and a wicked puddle decided that I didn't need it any more

there are local companies out there that can actually rebuild your alt for you. they usually cost the same as a reman from the parts store. The quality is usually good since you have an actual alt tech rebuilding it instead of a sweatshop tech.

also if you give them a little more change, they can boost it up too. i forgot what part the guy said needed to be upgraded but these alts can be boosted to 170 amp.

(plus the extra output probably compensates for the UD)

thats sounds good but i work at a autoparts store that sells mainly AC Delco and Motorcraft parts. We stock very little of the cheaper parts. If the AC Delco one doesn't work I'll probally find a shop around here that can rebuild it with an higher output
