  • Stahl headers RUDE owner

Just a little rant. I'm trying to start a header project for a 3.4 DOHC going into my 88GT. I had a guy trying to get me some header flanges but it was a no-go. I got to thinking about custom header manufacturers like STAHL! I called STAHL and talk to someone this morning that told me they could make them custom but I would have to send a template and a few measurments. The guy told me to call back and talk to a salesman later in the afternoon. So I did. I actually got the owner mr. Stahl. I explained to him about the flanges I needed. In short he was very rude in saying that he had never seen the cylinder head, he had never seen the cylinder head. I was trying to explain I needed flanges and he stopped me again and said " for the THIRD time I have never seen the cylinder head" I wasn't FxxxxxG asking him if he ever seen a DOHC cylinder head. If he would have listened. I was trying to see if he would make them for me and maybe some others that may want them. I was offering him BUSINESS. Anyway I feel better now. What do ya'll think?

Big name buisnesses tend to ignore small requests or tiny profits, so I'm not surprised at your experience.

You would probably be far more successful by taking an exhaust gasket if one exists for the Do hicky motor and walking into a local machine shop and asking them to duplicate it in 1/4" steel. That's what I did for my very first turbo exhaust flanges years ago at $25 a pop. Putting three big holes in thin flat steel is cake work for most well equipped machine shops and if you find a friendly one like I did years ago, along with cut rate prices the owner will greet you with a smile and take you back in the shop area. Thanks Burt at Detroit tool and machine of Lakeland Florida, now retired and sold.

My thought in the "haven't seen the head" comment is that he was most likely wanting to see if he could take a standard flange template and just relocate some holes or whatever to make a "custom" flange for you. That's just my guess.

I thought there used to be a guy who sold DOHC header flanges on ebay all the time? I know I offered to draw one up in CAD a while ago, but people were just getting them off ebay, so they said not to worry about it.
