  • Question on Cam timing.......

    Hey everyone,

The 3.4 DOHC with auto was the -3 / +3 timing,

But wasn't there some thread that had said for the
    5spd to go +3 / -4 or visa versa???

I thought the 5spd timing was different?

    Is that correct?

    Let me know.

    Thanks!!!!

    Regards,
    David

I thought it was +6/-6, but I am not 100% that I have the +/- in the right spots. I haven't done anything with this timing yet.

There's really no different timings based on transmission. The most common timing to do nowaday is advance intake 6/retard exhaust 6, or +6/-6. You could try something different with an auto. If you had a program like desktop you could play with what different timings would do. Automatics would work best with more mid range, so there may be a better timing for them.

EDIT: This was my 666th post, BTW. Which I find amazing since I'm talking about 6/6 timing. I swear I did not plan it that way!

I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

In 6 posts I will have 999 :P I had desktop dyno a long time ago. I have no idea where it went (was a different computer). I would like to "acquire" a copy of dynomation, but have yet to find it anywhere

By +3 / -3 I was meaning on each cam itself.

I guess it would be easier on the crank seeing that I have a Degree wheel I can adapt to my balancer.

I would rather time them by the crank anyways. Since it spins 2x for the cams 1x, it makes the crank 2x as accurate to go by in my book.
