hey Lyle; any update on the cam issue? Did you find someone or still looking or what is up? And, also, not knowing the characteristics of the steel you ordered; will it require heat treating and if so, who is going to do that; the cam grinder or you? And where are THOSE specs coming from.....?
Questions, questions........

The Caddy guy gave me the specs on the steel, and told me to heat treat the journals and lobes. The idea was, I manufacture the blanks and they do the final grind/polish. I have still not found a cam shop in Edmonton but I haven't looked to hard yet. But I am going to try this place that we use at the shop I work at. But thanks for reminding me I will see what I can come up with this week.

Interesting! Sounds like if I ever want to do this I am going to have to ask ben some questions on specific grinds for my application.
Can't wait to see some results if somebody does this. Good luck to whoever does it.1995 Pontiac GTP
Over $12K invested, and still its slow. Maybe thats because thats most all repairs. Don\'t knock the engine though, because thats the only part that has seemed to last.

Lyle; did you ever get a chance to check out/contact that place in BC that I PM'd you about? (at least I thought I did....????) If you don't have the info/# anymore I can see if I can dig it up; the guy knows a lot about cams and had already had a look at the tdc; bought their own for measuring and 'review' 1-2 yrs ago and understands the implications of grinding the overhead cam where there is no 'slack' allowance.
It would be nice if we can find something in Cda; in the past yr admin costs to bring stuff across the border (incl shipping!) have really gone up. I thought it was supposed to go the OTHER way...... !!

well as an update I HAVE found a place in ONT Canada that INSISTS they will do (and have done!) cams for this engine, that they do them by hand and that they already have a set made for a hi perf dohc they are building up.
So I am after specifics and costs and as soon as I get something back will put it up here. The owner said very definitely that he has NO probs with doing custom cams for this motor - AFTER a lot of questioning by me on the issue.
Well, we will see. I am waiting for him to come back to me on it with costs and what he does etc. ie build up and regrind, grind only, needs blanks/cores, whatever.

well, like I said, I would ASK this guy and I have and I am waiting for him to come back; been a couple of days now so if I don't hear I will phone him.
WHAT are the W41 specs - if they are known for a fact....???
I guess maybe I should do a poll of how many people want what and (I guess) if they have cores now or they need new outright etc etc to get an idea. IF there are enough it might light a fire under his butt a bit.
what does everyone think? Can we get an idea of numbers?
