Thats bull shit man. I have been driving my car for 3-4000 miles with a custom turbo kit, that is not even tuned and I am getting 22 MPG in the city. This is an awesome motor, you just have to know how to treat it. The problems with these motors, is that people get them at the point where everything brakes. for 1-100,000 miles I bet very few things go bad. Now I know the belt, plugs and what not have to be replace but that normal on all cars. The motors are a little hard to work on, but thats the fun of it. I would not say that the DOHC is a piece of shit and would not trade it for a 3100 single cam motor any day of the week.

Oh its coming, OBD II swap, 42.5# injectors, Turbo Timer, WideBand 02. I have everything in my garage, I am just waiting on a member of W-body.com to get it out to me. Since I dont have any 96 cars around me he (CRAZY K) was able to help me out in getting the harness and the computer. The computer was fucked so shane (REDZMONTE) is trying another one that he has. Its happening soon though.

I agree with d.o.h.c. My Olds has 165K miles on it and has been extremely reliable. It served its time as my daily driver and now sits in the garage mostly during the winter while I drive my '06 Dodge Magnum everyday.
But I will not hesitate to get the Olds out every once in a while and crank her up, she still runs like a top.
Don't condemn the entire engine line because you had a lemon!

The DOHC has more things to go wrong if you try to avoid standard maintenance that needs to be done on any other motor anyway. If you take care of it like you should anything else, it's an extremely reliable engine and makes a beautiful sound and a nice amount of power.
In all honesty, I think the DOHC gets its bad reputation from the fact that its really hard to work on in the W-body chassis. (We Fiero guys get it easy )
