I need some info on the 3.4L DOHC engine, looking to buy one to use in a race car. Where does peak horsepower and peak torque come in? In 1996 at what Rpm do they run up against the rev limiter? Thanks for any info that you can give me.

The rev limiter on mine is set at 7150 and i've hit it without valve float.

depends on how your time your cams. Stock it pulls great right to the the revlimiter of 6500, and if you get your computer retuned to to take advantage of the rated 7000 rpm redline it pulls good all the way up. If you retime it to like 6/6 you get much better mid rang from what I hear but it started to drop off after 6500 but a stock auto will shift there anyway. I'm sure Ben can help you out more. He has played around with cam timing alot.

i forget the exact shift points on the manual but i remember shifting the auto at 6k. I didn't do it much though on the auto, i think the best results were had when i let the computer shift it.
my personal liking of shift points varied on the manual depending on which gear i was in. i think i may have shifted at 6k for 1-2-3, 6500 for 3-4 and 6800 for 4-5.
iirc it may have started to wane at about 6600 but it revs so quick, it is hard to tell. your only limit here would be the cams b/c stock, no matter which revision you have, the heads flow very well. the best way to find out for sure is to find a dyno chart for a stock engine on here. I would look to that versus opinions on where the power drops off.Last edited by dohcfiend; 01-14-2008, 12:32 AM.The Official Rotating Mass Nazi
