Going in a straight line with equal traction on each side an open diff will spin both tires.
One test for this is to dump some water all over one front tire and leave the other side dry.. roll the car foreward a few inches, lock in the parking brake rev up a bit and dump the clutch in 1st and let the tire(s) spin for a bit...
then back up and check the marks, if it's an open diff just the wet side would spin and there shouldn't be any marks on the dry side.
with my limited slip if i touch the gas at all while turning it throws me all over the road.
