  • 60 degree v6 lifters=loud lifter tap

I got 1000 miles on my motor, but I started to notice that the lifters are very, very loud. I have full oil and it does it all the time. Are these lifters know for this or do I need to run heavier fluid

They are loud! Sounds like a multiple clacking going on under the hood from the 3.4 I know of that did the swap. Heavier oil did take some of it away, but it's still loud at idle or coasting speeds.

They are a little louder than the injectors, but its noticable. I will be doing an oil change soon and will change to a little heavier oil

If you're running the 48 gram lifters, it has been my experience that you do need to run a heavier grade oil. In a synthetic I found the Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 works pretty well. It gives you a couple extra pounds of oil pressure on the top end which is never a bad thing. I also ran 15W-50 once as an experiment. It did completely eliminate all lifter tick, but I think it was a bit excessive.

Doesn't Porsche use like 0w60 or something like that? I have the same problem and Im trying to get rid of it. Maybe if we could find like 5w50 or something it would be good for start ups and good for the lifters when it warms up.

I am running 5W-40 Castrol Syntec and I am still getting some noise. Can't really hear it when you are driving though at higher speeds around 40 and above.

I still haven't gotten a oil guage yet. grrr.

You'd think with a GTP package they'd include a freaking oil pressure gauge.

They do, if you have a 91-93 GTP.

But that is the ugly interior, no offense.

Blasphemy. That interior rocks. The best seats of any production car if you got the GTP package, the DIC is huge and easy to read and use, the factory CD player was awesome and has steering wheel controls, and the HUD was equally awesome. I don't see what was so ugly about it. I actually prefer it over the 94-96 interior. But anyway, getting off subject.

i am running 10w40 and I can still hear the tick. Does royal purple work? I also dont know, can you use synthetic in a turbo?

You want synthetic with a turbo. I had lifter tick but it was only noticable at idle and was random. I used 5w30 and 10w30. Never tried 40.

                            I use Royal Purple 5W-30

And it helped the lifter noise by leaps and bounds, especially when you first start the engine. Wayyyyyyyyyyyy less lifter noise, BUT the oil IS EXPENSIVE.

I have tried MANY types and I have been impressed with the Royal Purple line, there are of course other good brands too.

GM uses Mobil 1 full synthetic as OEM oil in the GXP line and the covette C6
