  • LY7 3.6L mods

obviously these engines have been out for a while in many forms,
im wondering whats performance mods ppl have made/selling.

im in australia and so far there is only; exhaust,CAI, and a tune available.
there is a CAPA s/c kit, and raptor are now R&D a kit.

im wondering if there are any performance parts available anywhere yet?
ive had a quote of $3200AU to get some cams re-ground

is anyone making piston kits, cam packages, stroker kits?
whats the go with advancing the timing?

on my car ive got the exhaust, cai, tune. and ive got 236rwhp.

    are any parts interchangeable?

    all help is appreciated

You guys in Australia have had these engines for longer than we have, so there will be more performance parts available down there than over here. To the best of my knowledge, we don't have anything really available yet from any companies in the US.

just wish to give this topic a bump again,

have heard that the alloytec engine will soon be able to get a MAFless tune,

anyone in the is making cams yet? ive been chatting to Crow Cams, they are the guys that did the R&D for the turbo LY7 that appeared in the proto Holden Torana, however they say that they have to wait untill holden release the cam blanks so they can send the blank to the US to get some cast, then sent back here to be ground.

does anyone know if caddilac or anyone are releasing specialparts yet?

i can get some standard machined cams for $140AU each - from the dealership

I don't have any information yet unfortunatly.

This is why I used an LQ1 when I chose an engine for my Fiero, that ground's already been trodden. However, when I was researching the 2.8vvt and 3.6vvt, the 2.8's contruction allowed for high amounts of boost with only reducing the compression ratio (mechanically). I'd look into the prospect of small amounts of boost, were you willing to drop the compression on your 3.6. Where this a prospect for you, I'd also get into contact with Toyota Racing Development guys, or anyone experienced with variable valve'd motors with boost.

Then there's always the LLT block swap. That would be wasteful wouldn't it....

If and when you find aftermarket or power, please post.

there is 2 manufacturers here in Australia that make bolt-on supercharger kits for our Holden Commodores.

          and

out of the 2 i would go the Raptor because 4 guys in our club run with the raptor brand and have had no issues whatsoever.

I doubt there is a whole lot to gain with cam regrinds in an engine with VVT since that alone allows you multiple cam profile simulations. For $3200 you can have custom pistons made, have the 2.25" crank pins offset ground to increase stroke and use small block chevy performance rods for the 2" crank pin diameter, purchase the tuning equipment for the engine from EFILive to dial it in and if possible change the VVT cam settings to performance. I've priced the crank offset at $200 and $400 if you want to have metal added to increase stroke even further.
