  • I am going to drive it to school today. If it still does the same thing I am going to make a boost leak tester. If I cant find a leak with that then I bring it down to the shop and have them fix it. But I did notice that I had a check valve hooked up wrong. So when I would blow on it it would push the air out, So when I would make boost it would just vent. I fixed that and Hopefully that was the problem.

    • What's happening to the A/F ratio when it tries to boost?

      • Sometimes it will stay green/yellow and the past few other times it has been going crazy. basically it will light up the whole half of the gauge. What does this mean?

        • As soon as the turbo starts to spool, it should go solid green (at the very least no less than the green/yellow border). If it's anywhere else (or bouncing all over the place), you have a fueling problem.

          • Where did you have a check valve hooked up wrong?
Do you still have the PCV system hooked up after the MAF?

I'm not running a stock vacuum ball on mine- it got in the way of the intercooler piping.

            • Tim, can you PM me your number. Anyways i have the pcv valve hooked up to the filter side of the turbo. So I talked to shane and he said to disconnect the charge pipe before the maf and I did. It stalled but I was able to get past 3000rpm. But with the charge pipe connected the car burns oil like non other. If its a fueling problem what is causing it. The FMU is hooked up to charged side of the turbo and is hooked up with the bottom port to the return and the side to the return on the fuel rail. IS this correct? Also what about the fuel pressure regulator. What would this do? Canister purger line? What else is there

              • OK I found the probelm. IT was the FMU VACUUM HOSE. Yeahhhh. Thanks to Tim g and shane. I do get a perfect green/ yellow reading on the A/F ratio gauge the only thing that I notice is I dont really make to much boost. If i give it gas it does spool, but not that much. I think I have to change the spring as I have a 3psi spring in it now and I make about 3 psi of boost. The other thing is the BOV. What BOV works with low boost. I can hear compressor surge because I think the turbo xs BOV I have works at 10 psi and above....So some one pick a good BOV for me.

                  • The only thing you can do with this one is add pack washers. But would that not make the spring stiffer. So actualy it would take more PSI to "blow off"

You can also cut the spring, the XS Power BOV has been known to have too stiff a spring in them. It's going to take some trial and error, cut a little at a time.

                      • Nice. I'm glad the FMU line fixed it! Most BOV's won't do much below 5 psi or so. The stock DSM one isn't bad, but it's not pretty.

                          • Yeah I am going to be changing out the wastegate spring with a 7psi spring. I am also going to cut the BOV spring. But first I have to find out what is making the burning oil smoke. I think that the 3.4 makes about alot of oil pressure, infact I think mine was at 70 psi once. So I read a article that the regular turbo sleeve bearings are only supposed to get no more than 30 psi. So I am thinking that is the problem right there. I just hope I did not ruin the turbo.I do have to fix the drain line on the turbo, its too low. If that does not fix the problem I will look into having the turbo being rebuilt. If that does not work then I got real big problems. I just ordered the oil restictor and a catch can. But the one thing that has got me worried is that the smoke was coming out of the valve cover breathers as well as the exhaust.

                            • How much of the BOV spring should I cut to make it go off at 4psi.

                              • My valve cover breather released a fair bit of smoke as well.

I'm not sure cutting the BOV spring is the best idea. There should be some guidelines on their website about what spring to use.
