  • mods??

this is about modifying the motors we love/hate. 2 things 1 list your mods and what you believe they are worth 2 does any1 have proof of what a single mod is worth or maybe a sum of their mods(ie real dyno). im curious what you guys have done.....well the ones that don't list the mods in the signature anyway j/k. and im hoping the peeps with the dynoed mods maybe i could use them as guidelines to maybe give me an idea what some of mine might be worth.

(these claims are just what i think they might be worth or maybe have read some claim somwhere about)
    i'll go first:
MAF screen removal: i have read it is worth(i believe it was zz performance but not certain) 2hp
    cat gut: 5hp 7tq, guess
    cold air intake: 5hp, guess
    K&N: 2hp, guess
    50 shot: it better be worth 50hp 50 tq,guess
b&m vacuum modulator: well it is a mod but not worth anything(really it is worthless i will use it as a selling point someday and maybe the buyer won't realize it is worthless).

i am particularly interested in 13* timing mod, different mufflers, and an underdrive pulley.

I've read that removing the MAF screen is actually detrimental because the honeycomb is used to even out the airflow over the sensor... without it you could get inaccurate readings.

I dynoed 25hp over stock with mufflers, UD pulley, chip, and intake. You do the math. Funny part was that tq was still the same.... Oh well.

Custom Cone Intake by Intake Power (Definate butt dyno difference with rain gutters off)
Magnaflow 2.5" High-Flow Catalytic Converter (Very little difference, better than blown-out stock cat.)
FFP Custom Tuned Chip (BIG difference)
Hypertech 160 Degree Thermostat (going to a 180* this weekend)
Flowmaster 40 Series Mufflers (Little difference, good sound)
Some American something-or-rather glasspack resonator (Sounds awesome)

Yeah... no dyno results yet, but it is definately faster than stock. There's a dyno shop near me, I'm gonna take it there probably in May, after I get my new wheels.

Any of you guys played around with diiferent injectors?
A buddy of mine has a GN, and he gave me a set of 33lb/hr injectors after he went to a 42lb.

intake; best would be to go w/CAI. battery relocation needed, lest you dont have ABS. hop to mymonte.com and hit up Red Z for that. the 13* by itself is good. to get the full effect, port & polish your heads, (AT)3 angle valve job and deck em. tapering the throttle body, p&p'd intake(s)

MAF screen, it has been debated to death and hasn't been proved beyond a doubt either way. If you got a air filter on the end or a bend right before then the screen might be a good idea to get accurate readings at low flow.

For injectors, going larger will do nothing. Air makes power, fuel only supplies the means.

20hp more at the wheels, which equates to 25 at the crank assuming 20% loss. At the time, I had the infamous RedZ intake w/ a 7" S&B filter. Plenum was stock.

                    ud pulley

i am going to be getting a pulley soon and i saw a few of you guys have one. can you guys give me a part number for a new belt?

FYI: also just for the hell of it i will have some exhaust work done very soon, so that just leaves the cam mod.

I have a 97 lumina 3100. I took the MAF screen off. It runs just like it always has with absoultely no problems. I have noticed a little better throttle response with more WOT power. I'm guessing about 5 hp. My mileage is still the same, and the plugs look fine. I took the cat off. The difference to me felt just like the UD pulley did, so I figure about 10 at the most. The pulley is from fastforwardperformance.com and has been dynoed at 10hp @ 5500rpm. The K&N air filter--I didn't really notice anything, hp or mileage wise.
