          OK....that being said....

I know the OBDI and OBDII differences, but what are the 1996 to 1997 differences?

I'm putting a 96 DOHC motor into my 95 Lumina that has a nice old (262k miles) 3100 in it. While it runs great, I'm sure I am on borrowed time.

So, I have a 96 motor and I grabbed a 96 harness from the boneyard.... Should I have picked up a 97 harness instead?

          Gracias!

1996 has a "C100" computer. 1997 has a OBDII. but both work about the same. In 1996 GM didn't know how to make a OBDII so this was their 1st attempt at it. The 1996 computer will run the 4T60-e. 1997 from what i understand has a 4T65-e. Not sure other then that. I was told that i need to get a '96 to work with my tranny.

Yeah, the 97 runs the 4T65E and the 96 runs the 4T60E. Other than that, they're VERY similar. Only a wire or two on the firewall C100 connector changed.

              Shane,

I got your message about the harness. I'm actually planning on using my 96 harness first. Only if things don't work out well with the 4T60E will I switch to the 4T65E and 97 harness.

So if i swap the harness w/o changing the couple wires, will it run or do i need to do that befire it runs. i know i need to add a knock sensor, will it run w/o the sensor? Also where is the knock sensor located.

If I remember correctly, the extra knock sensor was on the front of the block where the current coil packs are. I think it will run without it, but I do not know how it will affect power output and knock control.

There are some wires in the C100 firewall connector that will need to be swapped. I think this is the summary based on the spreadsheet I posted:

                    Move A3 to E1
J2 is for the OBD2, you will need to add a wire from this to the OBD2 port
L1 run new wiring with a 60 amp fuse. This was a battery feed on the 95.

I will have to double check to see if i have another connector for a 2nd knock sensor or not. dont remember seeing one, i could be wrong tho.

Im a Fuktard, Yep there is a front knock sensor connection. I need to find a place to put it in. everything is done except the Knock sensors and the firewall harness pin swap. should be done tomorrow.
