    Are the 3400 upper components worth the swap? How much of a differance can one expect from the swap?

    I am currently looking locally for the parts, and might be able to get them for reasonably cheap. What would be a decent price?

    Can someone explain why the 2nd gen cams are better than the 1st gen?

    3400 upper components? The 3400 upper intake, you mean? The 3400 is a pushrod, 2 valves/cylinder engine. The intake parts won't work on the LQ1/3.4DOHC.

    From what I understand, the 96-97 LQ1 cams are worse for power than the 91-93 cams. The heads on the 96-97 engine flow more air, so the same power could be made with less aggressive cams that provide a better idle.

      i would think a 3400 intake would be restrictive on a lq1 anyhow even if it could fit.

        ok I think I got confused somewhere.... What are the years for the better intake set up? So whatdo I need to look for?

          you would need 1996-1997 3.4L dohc heads, and intake manifolds. From what i hear the older cams are more agressive so you can keep your cams/cam towers. it is a big job swapping heads and make sure you also get the exhaust manifolds because they are also different.

          The easiest swap is just doing the upper and lower intakes. the heads are a very big job to swap.. I think Lukez34 has a set of 1996 intakes.
