  • startin my engine rebuild, ideas?

    hey
im pulling the engine out of my 91 z34 to start a complete rebuild. Im a mechanic by trade and i have appox 3 grand to throw at the engine build. Im looking to make this thing a reliable driving car. sooo my plan was to have the bottom end balanced and left relatively stock. The heads are going to be rebuilt stock and have .010 shaved from them to bump the compression up to 10:1. i figure all the machine work alone is gonna soak up pretty much 1500-2000. so what do you think i should do with the last 1000? if i can get somehwere around 240hp out of the 3.4 while retaining some decent fuel mileage i would be very happy.

So far you have everything right. I have a 91 3.4DOHC in a fiero right now, it is totally balanced and blueprinted, bored .30, heads shaved, minor head port and polish (mainly just a good clean up). and just like that I have the fastest 3.4DOHC N/A fiero on Pennocks Fiero Forum. I run very consistantly at 13.9@101 as it is on the street with a very bad slipping clutch, small street tires, and no weight reduction. Since then I have installed the FFP UDP which provided a great increase in throttle responce. I would also recomend doing either 6* advance intake and 6* retard exhaust, OR 13* retard on the exhaust cam. 13* is great for high rpm drag racing, while 6/6 is good for low RPM torque... better for daily use. If you do planon messing with the cam timing, you should get 1994-95 cam cogs (gears). As you probably already know the 91-93's are horrable if you want to experiment at all with cam timing. You can also get a custom computer chip either from this websites store or from DarthFiero (you can search for his name on PFF {www.fiero.nl} and email him) he is pretty cheap ($20-30) and is compatable with other cars with the 3.4DOHC in them like your z34. other than that, you can custom build a upper intake plentum for it... http://fiero.cc/fiero-tdc/members/mws/intake/ Any questions feel free to ask, I'll try to answer them the best I can.
86 Fiero 3.4 DOHC, 13.9 @ 101 mph as it is on the street.

87 Fiero GT with a 400hp SBC before nitrous, 500-550hp after nitrous.
