Just for hahas I knocked both cams foward a tooth and the engine gave me everything it had at the tap of the gas....but at 4800-power drops fast and there is no accelleration after 5000. Virtual wall.

too bad you cant vary the cam timing...so you bump it up a tooth till 4k then bump it back, huh

maybe if someone wanted to get REAL creative..... and spend alot of $$ along the way... they use that system on their vortec inline 6's in the trailblazers, but only on the exhaust cam. Probobly don't have room to do a "conventional" setup to vary the cams. BUT, I'm sure someone out there is crazy enough if they wanted to do it, they would lol.

Sappy's idea for a duel intake runner design would be easier to implement than variable cam timing...but still not for the weak of heart to design and undertake.

I'm gonna say, I believe any setting like that and you'd be engineering the engine against its design. 4 valve per cyl usually isn't supposed to have pushrod low end...not that it CANT, just its easier and more beneficial to work more on the mid/high...BUT supposedly Sappy's head work makes crazy low end.

I hear the 13 degree barely hurts the low end...Im sure if you've already gotten the basic basic mods (CAI, UD pully, and most important: Chip) it would be mostly unoticable

I guess you could just get a 5 spd

I don't know why everyone thinks the 5 speed has "crazy" low end. I haven't driven an auto DOHC, but if you guys aren't exaggerating the difference between the 5 speed and auto low-end... then damn do I feel sorry for you auto guys. Other than the better gearing I don't think there is a hell of a difference.

If I'm under about 2500RPM in first and mat it, it won't chirp the tires... but over 3000 or so in first or second... I've got crappy tires though.

Anyway, back to the question. I agree the only way to get good low-end results that I know of are the chip, UD Pulley, and CAI. At least as far as bolt-ons go.

Mine will all out burn em from punching it in first at any rpm above 1500.

The low end is not better on the 5-speed, just feels it in first becuz the gear is so much shorter than in the auto. And for racing, the 5-speed can just launch so much better off the line, it gets to 4k so much faster.

Well the taller final and the Auto program it makes driving one of these cars very blah. FDP program and 3.73 final livens the engine up. This engine may tolerate a higher rpm but damn you could've fooled me it seems the engine is all midrange. Also the auto kinda refines the powertrain as a whole so you don't feel as much either. These engines don't respond like the pushrod motors do but they do respond. I recently gteched best 15.6@94 mph. If I catch it just right, it will smoke the tires to 2nd gear, but that's if it can get past it's bog point(which is next to impossible), weather and road surface deteminates. Weather...my god weather so has such a freaken influence on this motor it isn't even funny, hazy, hot, humid day at the track I did a best 16.4@85mph. IN fact I saw a z34 same conditions different day get a 16.7, speed was barely above 80 mph and his engine seemed fine, looked in order too. Thats not as bad as the v6 honda accord rice edition that ran a 17.3....Regardless what transaxle you got, as long as you are not in the power band and/or you got bad weather the engine isn't worth a damn. I've drive a few standard shift 3.4s though the years, compared to my equipment I'm not missing much. Also living near NYC doesn't help my mood to have a standard shift transmission. One bad thing with the auto program is at 5000 rpm it will not pull for anything thanks to GM, feels like a stock gen GEN1-2. The FDP chip helps that area out. Regardless this motor still isn't my cup of tea to say the least, but it gets me around, its quiet, and uses regular fuel. People are so up and up with this engine god only knows why, and All I say is that after 3 alternators in a 4 month period, if you leave it alone, it will leave you alone.

wtf are you talking about aaron. I was hoping you could act a little more mature with some positive feedback on the headers, but your bullshit ego doesn't stand around here.
