  • New Exhaust

I recently had a new custom cat-back exhaust system installed on my 93 cutlass. I ordered 2.5 dynomax cat and ss mufflers from jegs and took it all to a local exhaust shop. I get there, rop off my stuff, select my tips, tell them what I want, etc. Im pumped on getting my new exhaust installed and everything, so I head across the street to get something to eat and wait for them to finish.
When i get back I see that they installed the system with 2.25" piping and they say they couldnt fit the 2.5" piping in. 2.5" was the reason for the new exhaust. The car is still loud and is faster but im pissed off. This crap is the sort of thing that always happens to me. I cant believe that they welded 2.25 piping onto 2.5" cat and mufflers.

Anyways i was just wondering if there is a notacable difference between having the 2.25 vs the 2.5 piping installed.

Sounds like a BS excuse to me. I'm running a 3" exhaust to the Y and then dual 2.5" pipes to the rear mufflers. Everything fits very well into the stock space. I'd take it back and complain.

Is it worth it, would i notice any gains from 2.25 to 2.5 or 3" pipes .

Another thing that i noticed is that the y pipe that was put on to split the mufflers directs a large majority of the flow through one muffler. Is it easy/worth the trouble to get a split that splits the flow evenly?

2.5" is optimum performance gains in my opinion for the n/a engines.

The one muffler having more exhaust than the other, it'll happen... No real issue there as long as the bends are smooth and not a hack job.

Wow, bring that car back and give them HELL. That is one of those things that I would say ok to just to get my car back, because I am sure you were waiting some time. Here is what I would do, go back and tell them that they put the wrong piping on. If you have it on a reciept thats even better. But one thing you dont want to piss them off cause then they wont give you what you want and if they do they will do a shitty job. Tell them you did you research and 2.5 will fit and thats what you paid for, because not to mention 2.25 is cheaper not much but still cheaper. Good Luck.

The problem is that at the time, I believed them about not being able to fit the 2.5" so i paid for the 2.25'' so if i get it changed, I will most likely end up paying for the upgrade, which is why Im wondering if it worth swithching to the 2.5 or if i should spend my money on another uprgrade such as a chip or pulleys.

If they've already messed up once, I wouldn't let them do it again.

Just wanted to ask you guys opinion on somthing. The new exhaust sounds real nice and all, but it seems that around 2200 - 2800 rpm under acceleraton the exhaust produces what i would call loud tapping, but it is quiter if you get on the gas a little more and accelerate at above 2800 rpm.?

                  could have a leak somewhere...

I doubt there any bends poor enough to create exhaust echo. I agree with the rest, i've been in a similar situation. the shops told me that they couldn't do things.. i just shopped around and found the biggest redneck shop in town, stopped in on a Saturday with a case of beer and about $100 in cash.

2.25" is too small.. i'd take it back, there is always a way to make it work.
