  • GI: Turbo Kits/Partials

Well, a friend and I fabricated a mostly complete turbo setup, intercooled, for the 1991-1995 LQ1. You would be on your own for tuning and fueling, but we would supply most everything else. Basically, for 600 dollars, you get a crossover with your choice flange, a second rear mani, and oil lines/modified oil pan for you choice of turbo. For 900, you get all that and the cold side piping, possibly an intercooler. For 1300-1400, you get a complete setup, with a Garrett T03 turbo(don't know what size exactly yet, that would come with testing on our prototype rig). You'd get crossover, turbo, rear mani, oil lines, cold side piping, intercooler, and couplers. The only thing you would need to buy would be a downpipe, and whatever you need for tuning/fueling(we're leaving that up to people better at tuning the computer than us). What kind of interest would we see in something like this? As a made to order product, we'd be open to customization on orders, that kind of thing, within reason.

Anyone up for some cheap(relatively) boost on an LQ1?

How about a rear mani and crossover with flange for 3x00s? I think you could sell a bunch of those.

Yea thats the ticket front and rear many and cross over with a 4 bolt flange on it ! I am getting ready to lay out about $300 to have some welded at a local shop (and I have to do all the pre-cuting/fitting and tack weld it for them!) .......so if you want to throw out a price for some parts lets talk!

Just a suggestion, go the extra mile and ditch the "T" intersection into the flange for a more efficient "Y", it wil make a difference and I couldn't tell for sure but if you don't have one make sure you install an expansion joint to avoid cracking when the heat causes expansion and tries to push the manifolds apart; been there and done it. The junkyards are loaded with GM stainless steel crossover pipes that have excellent expansion joints waiting to be cut off for use, you could probably go through a yard and pick up 10 for a good price if you make a deal with them in advance, say $5 each, I'm sure they don't sell many. You may also see some stainless steel stock exhaust configurations with the right mandrel bend that can be used. I have used OE stainless stock for my projects several times and prefer it because it's cheap stainless which is a rarety as well as about 14 gauge capable of handling some serious turbocharging abuse.

how about a pic of the new rear mani, and also some pics of it in the car so we know it fits.

As far as a 3x00 kit goes... The 3.4 is a lot easier, all you have to do is swap a second front mani onto the rear bank. Let's just say we're working on it.

For pics of it in the car... Well, we're shooting to have the engine in hte car soon here, in the next few weeks. When it's in, we'll solve any clearance issues we have, and post pics of it in the car.

For the crossover: We made that in about two hours, it's not the best quality. Production models would be a Y-pipe.

I would buy one in about a year. Right now I got TOO Much projects on the go and not enough time.

I respect ANYONE making a real effort to get products on the map for cars and motors that do not have many aftermarket products, but are liked by many.

              GOOD JOB!

              Regards,

Pm sent, as I am looking for turbo shops as we speak. It looks like tyou used the stock crossover pipe and attached a elbow to it? What kind of material you use? Is there a brace for the crossover pipe?

You could make some serious money if you had a decent product that would work for the 91-95 3.4 DOHC. I know I am about to spens around 500$ just on a crossover pipe and downpipe. Because I cant find anyone to buy it from. Can we get a close up of the welds and the joints. I have no problem spending money , but it has to be good shit.

I can get pics this weekend, but remember, what we did here was basically just a mock-up. It's a "T" joint, basically, and the ones we'll be selling are going to be a better setup, "Y" style coming together into the flange.

Hayes, the problem we run into with the 1996/1997 LQ1 is the same problem we run into with the L82/3400/3500: The rear manifold. LQ1s, LH0s, and 2.8s, all you have to do is slap a second front manifold on the rear, and make a crossover to fit. Basically: Yes, we make a kit for 1996/1997 motors, but you have to be using 1991-1995 heads. Let's just put that into the "We're working on it" category. It doesn't help that we don't have a 96/97 LQ1 to mock things up on, at least not yet.

Everybody, if you've got questions, post them up here or PM me, I'm happy to answer them.
