You don't need the DIS adaptors, you can hard wire it in. But it would be much easier if you did have them. You should be able to buy them for about $25.00 US but probably cheaper if you shop around.
What is so wrong with the DIS-4 anyway? Of coarse like all after market upgrades they make big claimes, but the results are a little less, But the theory behind the thing seems sound, how could it hurt? MSD is a very good name in ignition.

The only way to hardwire it would be to solder a wire to the ICM terminals then shove the wire into the bottom of the coil. You need the DIS adapters.
It'll help but not a whole hell of a lot. The only real gain with running this is for low end idle, and being able to run larger plug gaps. Untill you get into boost there really isn't any benifit to larger gaps (which would allow you to run stock gap with boost).

It doesnt hurt, but there is no performance gain to be had. I saw 1-2 MPG difference with it depending on the driving habits, and the idle quality improved. If its free, then yeah, its worth it, but its not worth 300+.
Wiring it up without the adapters would be interesting to see, thats about all I can say on that.Ben

stock is efficient. MSD made their name with single coil distributor setups. Those suck for spark intensity to begin with so an improvement is needed. We have 3 coil packs for 6 cylinders, with 40k volts out of each of them. I don't think any of us have an issue with blowing out the flame.Ben

ICM polarity:
Starting from pass-side (first tab, Second tab) as mounted on engine 91-93 ICM's> first coil +,- Second Coil +,- Third coil -,+.
Don't be mislead by insructions there is a typo for the +,- wiring!!!
Just remember that a trigger always goes to a trigger coil lead and the Coil(negative) always goes to coil negative on the control wire harness.
Rundown:
2 coils get wired for the +,- Channel 1 (first coil) channel 2 (second coil)
detail on adapters> first lead Coil positive goes to Coil + on harness (BrnOrange), Second lead 12V goes to RED on harness, third lead (trigger) (white channel one, green channel two), goes to trigger of that color on harness (not Coil negative as in insructions), Forth lead Coil negative (Brown white channel 1, brown green channel 2) goes to Coil negative (not trigger as in insructions).
1 coil gets wired -,+ Channel three (third coil)
Detail on adapter as wired in insructions just use the third channel wires from harness. First lead Coil negative, second lead trigger, third lead 12v, forth lead coil positive. Wire the Coil 12V supply to the other coils 12V supply (red), and the Coil positive can join up with the other coils coil positives (Brown Orange).
Make sure to wire the 12V supply to a switched line (ignition) so your battery doesn't die. I wired (Splined) mine to the ignition control (fuse) main wire under the pass. side fuse box.
I also sealed up the control box real good with caulk and replaced the wimpy gauge wire for ground and positives. The wire snugs are not 100% sealed on the unit very poor design. Once you get the switches set the way you want put a thin piece of tape over them and layer over it with contact cement to seal those stone age switch panels, but allow for adjustment easy just remove the tape set it and reseal again. Get rid of those butt connectors, bannana plugs, and hard wire any stone age connectors.I am back
