max n/a power????????? and suggestions plz

i am curious what is the max n/a power that you guys have netted out of these engines? my personal ambition would be 300hp(flywheel). out of my 94 z-34, then swap it into my fiero i have sitting around. what i have done so far is gutted the cat, shortned the intake tube to around 4in. taken the screen out of the MAF, used a cone k&n filter from a 96 gt stang. i have swapped out the stock injectors for a set of 19's off of a 87 305 tpi camaro, and a B&M vacuum modulator device(although it was not worth the $42 bucks i paid for it and i am thinking about getting rid of it) right now i have it turned all the way down to the most conservative setting for fear of tranny damage. i guestimate that it should have between 225 and 230 hp. thats going off of the stock numbers of 210 hp and not counting power losses to mileage and blow by(being that i have 120k on mine).

can you guys help me? if this was your car what would be your next mod?

note:it was suggested to me not to get a chip because I plan on putting a 50 shot on it next week and I don't want to advance the timing due to a chip.

Why did you go from a 23# injector to a 19# injector? Thats just not good at all, the computer is programmed for the larger injectors and you are just causing it to run them open longer.

You will need some sort of a pressure riser with the nitrous. I don't know any chips for the 94+ DOHC that is dyno proven, so aside from the spark timing issue, I dunno if it would be worth it. There is a 10 hp increase for the 94-95 yet no changes to the engine minus MAF and different programming to match.

My next mod would be to put the stock injectors back in.

i was told by sumit and advanced auto that this car had 17's in it. i will double check to make sure myself, if you are right what do you think of 26's out of an lt-1? and if i am right please reply with a different mod(something that doesn't require machining) besides swapping back the stockers, of course it would be mighty white of you to post one even if you are right.

The computer is programmed for 23# injectors, so using larger or smaller is a complete waste without reprogramming. The stock injectors are far from peaking out even on my car, and I have head work plus more done.

As for your next mod, port work helps a lot, but you said no machining so um...try changing your cam timing.

looks like you were correct

after doing some research i found out that i was misinformed by summit. after a lengthy discussion i found out that the sales person couldn't find my particular application so he referenced the pushrod 3.4's in a firebird/camaro which are 17lbs. i went and downloaded the accel catalog and they list 21lbs for 91-93, but no listing for 94 and up so you are probably right about them being 23lbs. so i will be putting the stockers back in later this week.thanks sappy.ltr.

cam timing

i looked at the cam timing walkthrough, that sh** looks straight up scary. do you guys know of any reputable shops near or around richmond, VA that can do this or might there be anyone able to help and teach me how to do this?

also what else after the cam timing what do i have to expect or might have to fix?(i seen one post where a person had idling problems).

lastly, is there any kind of novice guide for this?

novice guide? I dunno, I thought the picture walkthrough on the site was pretty detailed. I dont know if anyone with SFI has tested the cam timing. There are other cam timing options, just depends on where you want the powerband.

other options...hmm. personally i would prefer max power at 6k instead of 5200. if there would be a decent increase in hp(25 hp min.). i don't really care about tq because it has none(thats what the 50 shot is for). i will swap back the stock injectors, and finish the nitrous install over the next 2 days(you are the man and how did you find out the correct injector# anyway).next mod after the cam timing hurdle is crossed is a tranny rebuild, a trans go valve body kit and that 2800 to 3200 stall(im not loaded so it will take me about a month to get the cash, maybe longer if i have to pay someone to do the cam timing. anyway i am glad that i signed up for this forum.ltr.

The engine has torque, just not below 3000 RPM. With an auto trans, I would not suggest trying to raise the top end power, or set the peak at 6k. The high RPM power is what makes the transmissions kill themselves faster. You can always build up the trans to take the power better up top, which the valve body kit should help with. Ive heard good things about a higher stall, and with going to a 3.73 FDR.

I tune the 91-93 DOHC computers, which have the injector constant in the code. Thats how I know the injector rate. I have the 94-95 code now but I havent really looked at it.

Common misconception that I had until a few months ago. Horsepower is actually measured from torque and rpm. Torque is a measure of work, Horsepower really isn't anything you can measure. A Dyno measures torque and multiplies it by a formula to calculate horsepower.

Torque is force and Horsepower is work. Aaron I believe the conversion factor is cc/min=lb/hr x 10.5. So it would be 241.5 cc/min.
