  • Intake system questions

Hello I'm new here and I've got a couple of questions but first I've got to say hello to the local boys here in indiana. Seems as though we have some very sharp people up here in the northern half.

A month ago I was lucky enough to get for free -- a 92 GP se 2dr with Dohc V6 and a 5sp. Yes it's a stick to add to this it's got only 50,000 on it. Now for the bad news - seems some poor excuse of a garage tore it down thinking there was bent valves only to pull heads and everything was fine.
Car sat for last few years in owners nice warm and dry garage until about last month when it was determined by my friends wife that it went or he did.
My friend is not sleeping on my couch -- his car is in my garage.
Block looks perfect with no ridge and valves are clean and no guide wear at all.
Since it's already apart and I've always wanted to build a motor up for the fun of it I'm going to try some tricks and go all out.

Plans are to fully port and polish intake and heads and exhaust manifolds.
Have exhaust manifolds ceramic coated inside and out.
Underdrive pulley and real 3 angle valve job by beacheys machine shop, and I want to try an E-Ram. Since its down total seal rings also.
Everything is aimed at easier breathing and less blowby.
Maby a prom and scraper -- deck the heads.
So has anybody fully ported and polished one of these motors and how did it act ? ?
I've seen the timing tricks in here but I'm going to start at stock timing and see how it go's from there.

I'm looking for all those little thing that are 1 hp here and there so any info would be great.

What do ya think guys will it run or fall on it's face ? ?

    thanks

I ported the heads on my car, and it worked out well. I just flowed a stock head recently and posted the numbers, so you can see that it flows a ton already. I would focus more on the quality of flow than the quantity cause you already have plenty of raw flow. The intake manifolds were ported on my car as well (I had a 5 speed DOHC swapped into my 91 GP but just sold the drivetrain).

E ram really won't do a lot but it will probably help slightly. I wouldn't strain the electrical system to run it personally. Nitrous would be better

If you use the total seal rings, get a catch can setup on your PCV cause you will be blowing oil through your intake manifold otherwise. Its a good idea even if you don't go with those rings.

Skip the manifold coatings for now. It won't do a heck of a lot for you and you may as well use the money to work on making headers.

Check the store here for the chip (and since it sounds like you aren't far, I could also do custom tuning as well).

Sounds like a pretty rare car being that low on miles.

      thanks

thanks for the reply and yes I'm close to you -- I work where the ECM's and radios come from.
Yea N,O is tempting but I want to stay just normal air and pump gas.
Your comment on the PVC is something that I noticed when cleaning up.
Seems these spew a fair amount of oil out the PVC system. Enough to stain the entire intake system. Looks like it's in need of a good oil trap or can.
There wont' be an EGR feed either, it will be pluged.

Goal is running by thanksgiving < I hope >
Is the scraper worth it ? ? ever used one ? ?

      Thanks again
