I was told the 96 is interfernece and i mosst likely wiped my valves out but ive also heard they have huge valve reliefs in the 96 Lq1 pistons ALSo i need the instructions on how to change the belt HELP ME PLEASE

I would suggest that you read the sticky at the top of the Maintenance section that says 'read this before posting'.

    LQ-1 s are non-interference engines.

You believe what you want to, but to the best of my knowledge NONE of the LQ-1 s are interference engines.

Good luck with yours, let us know how it turns out.

                      I don't think the 3.4 was available after 1996.

The only vehicle it was dropped from was the Grand Prix and the oldsmobile. The Monte carlo (like mine), lumina, had it threw end of production 97

OK, I stand corrected. I still do not think it is an interference motor. I've heard of people blowing belts at around 5-6K RPMs and no valve damage.

Ben is the guru of these motors, what does he have to say about it?

Now that you see why i was worried i would like to hear from ben also or from someone with a late LQ1 like late 96-97 that has had a belt break on them.

where can i get a gasket kit cheap
where can i get head bolts cheap
does the engine need to be removed to take the heads off?
