Well, in the relentless pursuit of a semi-reliable car, I look to my lifters. They literally tick so loud that my dad thought it was rod knock. Now, I've replaced all of them once, so I guess I did something wrong. How do you tell if a lifter is good or bad?

Some people say to check to see if the leak down when you compress the lifter - to verify the check ball. I checked for scoring or other discoloration on a set of some that are flat tappet.\'90 Cutlass with \'95 3.4 DOHC V6
