How do I get codes - is this vehicle one of the bastardized ones??

    94 Z34 3.4L
The connector is an OBD I, with 12 pins, with wires going to A, B, and M

I've jumpered A & B but no flashing of Check Engine light. Key is in "On" position. Check Engine just stays constantly lit. Either I'm doing something incredibly stupid, or this is one of those OBD 1.5 versions. Is it possible to pull codes from this vehicle by jumpering? Will Autozone have a Scan tool for this? Or, will I have to get raped by the dealer? Thanks for any help!!

And I don't know about AutoZone, but I know for a fact that Advance Auto Parts has a scanner for it.
