  • 3.4L DOHC Timing Belt HELP!

I know this topic has been beaten to death- But I can't open the link that is specifically addressing the timing belt replacement on the 3.4L DOHC (page is unavailable?).
I have a 95' Cutlass with 85K miles and the belt is totally shredded. I can only hope my son wasn't flogging the motor when it happened.
I need to replace the belt this weekend and I am lining up the belt, idlers and tension assemblies.
I am just looking for any tips/advice on how to do this quickly and effeciently without having to take apart more than I have to. I will replace the valve cover and front cover gaskets as well. Can anyone tell me which parts are best (GM, Gates etc)? If GM is the way to go, can anyone give me the part number(s)?
Also, I don't plan on buying the cam holder tool for this one time procedure- What advice can anyone give me on how to line everything up correctly? I can fabricate a crude device if required, but I would like to get this done quickly.
Any suggestions, advice or links would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Thank you-
    Elm

I did not need the cam hold down tools, but I do own them.
just a small strait-edge will work.

Get cam flats up on both banks. and LOOSEN LOCKS.
Line up crank timing mark: TDC = #1
    Put on the belt.
    Check cams are flat again.
    tighten front bank.
rotate front bank to bottom, 360 degree on crank.
check rear cam flats with edge.
    tighten rear bank.

    good to go.

    Hints....
rockauto is where I got my timing stuff. search for discount code.
You may want to consider replacing pullies if there is any play.
I would prolly suggest changing tensioner.
cam locks can, and will, be a bitch to remove, suggest air tools.

      Tool Specifications?

      Thank you for the info!
I have parts being overnighted from Rock Auto.
Has anyone fabricated their own cam tools? If so, does anyone have specs or dimensions they wouldn't mind sharing?
      Thanks again!

ezobens, I am doing the same, nearly done.....but I just checke the links and the pic Cam walk thru and the cam hold down tools link both work.

I made the cam tools, based on the info on this site, and they work perfect, I just could not find keystock, and bought a rod from menards.

        hope this helps
