  • can someone help? i hope this is the correct spot.

I was wondwering if you all can help me out. My sister just bought a 93 Cutlass Supreme 3400 DOHC and she has some problems that need to be resolved. No hurry but she loves the car and want it running in good condition, thats all. The problems she brought to me were...

    1. When she has the headlamps on and the blower running, the blower doesnt blow strong or at a higher speed. :ike if she has it on high, she would have to dim the instrument panel lights and then the blower will blow stronger.

    2. She has had several people say that when she is driving, that one of her tail lights are blown. but when she checks it out herself, they both work. SHe went to the car wash this past weekend and had one of the workers pull her car up and she noticed it herself that one of the lights are blown.

    3. Her air conditioning unit isnt working at all. I told her she can at least go to the junkyard and get a new compressor or go to auto zone and get one. The place she went to check thaat out wants to charge her 1500 for everything.

I see that most of the problems here are electrical and if she does have more problerms, I will list them.

Please do not double post. You put one in the articles section which isn't for that kind of question post. And this one should be in DOHC maintenice or DOHC General. A moderator will move it hopefully.

    1) low voltage it sounds like if the blower blows hard when headlight are out. Check the battery and or alternator. Otherwise it could be the brushes in the blower fan are weak and need replacing or just get a new blower, but check the voltage first.

    2) One of the bulbs is on it's way out. The filament is broken and makes intermitent contact, eventually it will stay out. Replace it.

    3) You need to find out what the problem of the AC is. Does the compressor leak? Does it compress/run? Is there a leak somewhere else? etc.

You can check voltages however a mechanical problem with the fan the voltage dropping over a system would be more profound if the blower is going bad.

I had a problem like that with my Euro, and instead of doing voltage checks that gave me no out of ordinary readings, I pulled the blower ran it right of the battery and found that if I tilted it the motor the thing turns off, which does mean the brushes are bad.
