hi guys iam new and just bought a 93 z34 recently and she was running fine until last weekend when i went to a car show and came back then she started running real bad, she was shaking, sputtering, the smell of gas was real bad, when i took it around the block she seemed to want to go then she went back to sputtering, my first idea was a tune up but when i saw a liquid substance in the plug galley i thought other wise, now also my check engine light came on and it decoded as my egr valve, could it be my egr when there is a liquid substance on my boots and plugs? she was running great then all of a sudden? now iam running 93 octane with quaker state high rpm oil for good care? is this a problem? please help asap because she is up in the garage for now until i find out how to repair her

Remove a spark plug, tell me what it looks like.
But before you do that smell the exhaust tell me what it smells like. Pull the Fuel regulator vac any difference in idle?? Tap the Map any thing happen? Pull the map plug does it stall? Pull the tps plug and rev it does it stall? Plug the tps back in start it pull the iac plug then the tps does it stall?I am back

But before you do that smell the exhaust tell me what it smells like, any black smoke on a cold start?
Pull the Fuel regulator vac line any difference in idle??
Tap the Map any thing happen?
Pull the map plug does it stall? Pull the tps plug and rev it does it stall?
Plug the tps back in start it pull the iac plug then the tps does it stall without revving.
If possible have the fuel pressure tested.
When you do get to the point to remove a plug you only need to look at one mabey two.Last edited by Juglenaut; 07-06-2006, 04:31 PM.I am back

rings, valve seals; maybe... The valve cover gaskets around the plugs may have leaked oil onto the outside of the plug. Are you plug boots satuated in oil? are all the plugs that bad? Is the oil fresh or cooked on the plug at the electrode?sigpicHow to make High performance Emissions:
A "true" High flow converter, straight pipe.
Low/No flow EGR valve, block off plate.
Carbon canister and purge valve mod, place in large 30 Gallon can, cover, and place curbside, the city will do the rest.
PCV valve and vent tube, reroute to exhaust to dump where it belongs, on the ground. Or add breathers and let it all free.

ok the oil is cooked at the electrode, the boot bottom has some oil on it, i wouldnt say saturated but enough for alarm, now if it is a vlave cover problem is it a normal valve cover or a o ring, iam not real familar with the z34's, the plug was dripping with oil, not so much the inside but around, the elctrode was pretty rough looking, and when i toke the plug out it was smoking,

Oil pooling around the plug could fault the ground the plug has to the head, resulting in a weak spark. Keep checking the rest.
Valve cover gasket kit will solve the oil leak into the plug tubes, not a hard job.
Get a compression tester.
Warm up the motor to operating temps.
remove all the spark plugs.
Prop opent the TB to WOT.
do a compression check on each cylinder and write down the results. Post them.
Let motor cool. 2-3 hrs.
Now do a compression test cold. Post them.
Get a mustard bottle, fill it with oil 5w30 works fine.
Squirt about 1 once, that's it! into each cylinder, one at a time, and do a compression test again. Post results. this will let us know where thwe oil is coming from.
I explain more after the results of your tests are here.sigpicHow to make High performance Emissions:

my z34 leaks antifreeze now and hestitates
hey guys i fixed my sputtering problem, it was the valve cover gasket....and who ever said that it was not a hard job is crazy, it took me and a friend all day to finish with breaks, the back cover was a pain with everything in the way but hey look she runs great with the excpetion of a leak of antifreeze right in the middle of the motor, which means on the ground in the middle.....and she now hesitates.......what could of i done when i did this job?

alright so I'm nuts. I think setting the geometry of control arms on a custom frame is easy so...
Try cleaning out the throttle body, that should help with any hesitation. Also check or replace your fuel filter and run a fuel pressure test to make sure.sigpicHow to make High performance Emissions:

my z34 sputters
i hear ya man didnt mean to offend you but we cleaned the entire intake with a gasoline type parts cleaner in a tub........so i know that sucker is clean it took us half an hour, thats why it took so long to do this job plus the fact we did plugs and wires and the serp. belt but the fuel filter i can believe being that the air filter was trashed.....but would that cuase the car to go to 4 grand at the get go? how about the antifreeze leak any ideas, iam going to focus harder this weekened to figure this out, thanks for all your help man.

do you have a wave meter, a scanner with active sensor reading, or a cheap digital multi-meter? using pin bed aligator clips or repair the wire insulation real well after, clip onto the signal wire and the ground of your TPS with key on engine off. look at your reading it should be .45-.6 volts. slowly apply the gas pedal it should rise steady and easy in .1 volt increments. any jumps in voltage or drops in voltage, replace the TPS. it should go all the way up to 4.5-5 volts.
hook up a fuel pressure gauge, read key on engine off.
let sit 10 minutes with key on a watch it, if it drops more then 8-10 pounds you have an internal leak. chekc those two and post. let me know your results and we can go from there.sigpicHow to make High performance Emissions:
