      Sunny:
      Just get the belt on.
Loosen all locks, very loose, I had one tighten up on my when I rotated the engine and it popped the cam flat hold down off.
Front and rear bank: Flats UP
      Crank timing mark lined up.
      lock front bank.
rotate engine crank 360 degrees, front should face down, crank timing should be lined up again.
      Lock rear bank.
bitch to torque down. do not rely on cam-flat hold down tool for torqueing.
      Good to go.

      Salaman:
You have oil in it right?
You shouldn't have to prime the pump.
Did you loosen the oil pump shaft pully?

Napatiger...thanks for the info. I think I am ok, it seemed that it moved and now the holddown tool is on flat....the front I have not touched. I lined up the #1 TDC, and matched the mark on the dampner.

Now the biaatch is that the tensioner actuator - 24503860 that I ordered, does not have that gold washer thing on the outside part of it.

I cannot get the old one off the bad tensioner. I think the tensioner is out as I cannot even retract it with all my weight pushing down on it.

Anyway.....does that gold washer thing come off the old actuator ? Its the one that makes the actuator stay in the holding bracket, and can be seen form the outside of the engine...the one inside is still in place....

please let me know....gonna make another trip to the dealer tomorrow....

        thanks,

so I got the whole thing back together and ......drove it for 10 mins.

              1. Belt is sliding off again....aHHHHHHHHH
              2. At under 1800 RPM I get some weird deep knocking sound from the rear of the engine.....

I did change the following : both idlers & bolts, tensioner and bolt, actuator and the belt.

What can be wrong...???? I did not loosen the CAM gears....but do you think they can be off causing the belt to slide yet again ?

              thanks

I drove the car upto 60 MPH, and runs ok at that speed, I think i dont have enough power...

I am in Plainfield IL.......if anyone can help.

I changed the belt by putting the hold down tool on the rear, then using a level to get the fronts flat down, lined up the crank and then worked the belt in. I had to move the cams a slight bit, both front and back banks, to get the belt to fit into the teeth.

put the belt in by adding everything except the actuator, which I slid in at the end, once the belt was off.

I think i can get it torn down in 1hr or less, but I need to figure out whats wrong...do you think the timing is off ? and what could be the reason the belt is still slipping ? Pullies to tight ? I was scared to over do it as I did not want them to break.

                    thx

does anyone know if the generic cam sprocket tools work ?
                      Similar to this :http://www.etoolcart.com/index.asp?P...OD&ProdID=5024

                        That should work....
The GM one has three extensions instead of two, but it is the same principal.
I broke the first sprocket tool and had to buy another.

Those belt pics don't look like they are too bad. My belt is not totally centered. Is the belt comming off, or hanging over?

                          napatiger,

So I managed to get the front CAM sprocket bolts off, without the tool. I have the rear with the hold down tool on , I cannot get the rear bolts off.

So I lined up the crank mark with the timing chain cover.
Rear flats up and tool is on. Front flats up and tool is on.

how do I get the cams sprockets to rotate free of the cams ? I have a95 motor, and when I take the bolts off, I see come reddish metal piece behind it which goes thru the sprocket ...how do I get it off ?

Thanks, gonna work on it tonight.....i saw that http://60degreev6.com/showthread.php...ghlight=timing they only removed the front bolts. I will get all the slack by the tensioner so that when pulling the acutator pin, the crank does not move.

Did you get a chance to listen to the sound clip ?

Thanks, again !!! Nearly there...and $1200 still in my pocket

The lock rings are sometimes hard to remove, they just need a good whack.
But be carefull, maybe spray some WD-40 first and let it sit, I used a brass hammer so not to f-up the ring.

It is that ring that will lock the cam gear to tthe cam shaft. be carefull here as well, you could have the bolt loose and the ring can still lock. That happened to me when I tried it first and then my cam flat tool popped out and stripped alum threads from the head, oh well.

Just listened to the clip, Damn that sounds bad. don't know what to say.

                              Check pullies, tensioner.

Did you rotate the belt by hand a few times b/f starting car?

                                Napatiger,

So got the new belt on....I loosened the front cams, put flats up on all....pout the tool on both front and back....got the belt on...rotate the crank 360 to reline the timing mark on the dampner..

then I read ....make the #1 TDC on the compression stroke.....do I need to worry about that ? I read on this board that its done by the cams, so I just get TDC and go from there.....

Please let me know ...I wanna try and get it done tonight....

                                thanks,
