  • i'm stupid you can all laugh if you want

So I washed down my motor at the car wash like an idiot. And now the check engine light is on. The motor runs perfecly fine but I lost 4th gear and the car won't downshift by itself. I was wondering if anyone might know what I dicked up. I don't have an obd-1 scanner so this is why I am asking. I think my local autozone will scan for free but I am not sure. Help is greatly appreciated.

Wow, normally washing under the hood gets water down in the spark plug holes and causes some rough running till it dries out. I dunno what you did but id check your connections everywhere you can see first. It might just have to dry out before it all works again (hopefully). Never had the problems you describe so I can't really help pinpoint anything.

See if you can let it sit out for a day and dry off.

When I powerwashed my friends 90 Acclaim/2.5 we had to let it dry out before it would run good again.

I have no clue what it could be, however I'm currently in the same boat. The overdrive in my trans stoped working and only runs when I have shut the engine down and restarted it, but then it only works in overdrive for couple of miles.
