hello everyone, i am new to the site, yes another newbie. anyway i know this has probably been beaten to death but i have a potential problem with my 3.4. it is a 95 z34 with 141,000 miles and the belt let go(only because the ft idler let go). i have pretty much have gotten it done but the ft cam gears will not free up from the cams so i can spin it around to time the rear cams. they do not spin freely. i can get them to move but not spin. these as far as i know do not have the lock clips and are not tapered like the earlier ones. the whole assembly is together and i would hate to have to take off the tensioner and belt again, the ft cams are locked and the rears are ready to be spun. any advise?

They better be the tappered kind. Remove the bolt and then tap the gear with a hammer to get the lockring loose. I had 2 that were a real PITA and had to soak them in PB blaster. I ended up having to use a gear puller to get them off the cam. Hopefully yours aren't stuck on that tight.Ben

the only taper looks like where the tapered washer sits into, i have been tapping the gear off and it does not free up, it just slides on the shaft. if it does not free up should i disassemble the timing belt and remove the gears? and then put it back together again. i would hate to but i would have no choice. i have gotten the gear to slide on the shaft more than 1/2 inch away from the seat that it stops at against the head. if i went any further the gear would have come off.
