I read that additives are pointless with ALL oils. The oil manufacturers work very hard to make an oil work the way it is supposed to be. By adding shit to it you are throwing off all it's properties. Synthetics are WAY better in so many ways too. Chemically speaking they are off the charts in preformance and anti-wear benifits. There have been lots of tests too, look up a few. As far as filters, choose a good company and pick there best based on the test results not packaging (read packaging). I have always used Fram and had NO problems. Used to use a Double Guard, (teflon treatment and normal fram filter). Dumped that idea, since I found out that additives are for chumps. Now I use a tough guard, better filteration and no additives, and cheaper too. Oh and I use Castrol Syntec 5W-50 oil. Haven't had any issues, Dead cold starts from -40C to +35C (Fucking Canada, great place, stupid weather)

Just curious where do you get that from? Synthetic oil is just man made oil how would it have smaller "particles." Petroleum based oil has waxy contaminants. It's the detergents in them that cause leaks in older cars.

They're the most important part of oil.Otherwise all oil would be the same. The thing that makes synthetics better is that there is NO impurities in it so they can add more addatives, mainly detergents. Addatives are what give you multi viscosity oils, which petroleum based oils do need.

The problem is when addatives break down, because petroleum based oils need so many different addatives it breaks down quicker, synthetic oil can focus more on addatives since there are no impurities. Pick NEO, Amsoil, or Redline and you can run 25000 between oil changes as long as you have good filtration.

I just switched over from regular wal-mart brand tech 2000 5w30 and selected Castrol GTX Synthetic blend 5w30 for High Milage.

I have to say, my engine really smoothed out and alot of the noises I was hearing before went away.
