  • Timing belt ???

if you turn the crank with the belt off is there anyting differnt you have to do to time everyting. I bought a dayco belt kit and i was reading the paper that came with it and it said not to turn the crank with the belt off.

It's not an interference motor, especially when its not running. (where the potential goes up) Just time it like it says at the top of this page and you'll be in good shape. Throw whatever reference you have away and use what's on this site. We know by experience.

They probably say that because if you turn the crank with the belt off then your timing won't be right when you put the belt back on. From a recent experience I learned it's best to line the timing up by the book before you take off the belt.

i have the cam carrers off they where laeking in the spark plug holes. i turn the motor with the belt off . i aligend the timing mark on the crank shaft pully to the mark on the front cover. the only timing mark i have on the intermediate shaft is a white dot. is that the factory mark?i lined that up with the bottom of the cover . as long as #1piston is up that is right ?the coil pake fires on the power and exhaust stroke?Just want to make sure it is all done right i havs a lot of money in this thing. also i bought the tool kit from otc.

        Thanks Don
