cam hold down tool?

i remeber looking at the cam hold down tool plans, and just found this on AutoZone.

they have a timing gear puller. it looks a lot like the sterring wheel puller, just has a diff tip. IMO they are nearly the same. wouldnt they be interchangable

They should be. The only thing you have to make sure of is that the tip doesn't fuk-up whatever its pushing against. The right sized washers are excellent in helping to avoid this. I work at an O'reilly's and you would be suprized to see what people will use a puller for. Funniest one ever was some guy tried to pull a water pump pulley off using a 5-ton gear puller. He took two of the four pully bolts off and tried to concoct something first. Too bad if he would have taken the other two bolts out the pully would have fallen off. He came back and wanted a new pump and pulley for free after he pretty much folded his old pully in half. He said it was our fault for not including instructions. He talked to my boss and got his way but I really wanted to tell that doosh that our warranty does not cover his stupidity.
