  • Heating Issue

I have a 1996 monte z34 with 96k miles. About a month ago i replaced the water pump because it was leaking. i bleed the system after the pump change just like your supposed to after that the temp was really eratic so i figured more air. I didnt drive it for about a month but when i started to the temp was doing the same and it started heating up tp around 230 -260 and i shut the car off everytime it did that. so i changed th thermostat and it made virtually no diffrence still heating up or at least thats what the gauge says if u drive it it will heat up if u let it sit and idle for 30 min it will never over heat once it stas around 180. If u drive and it over heats according to the gauge and shut off the car for 30 secondes and then start it back up itll be about 130. im guessing temp sensor but i figure id get some other opinions. a GM tech told me the water pump i bought that had a diffrent impeler on it maybe be captaving but i dont think that is what it is. SUGGESTIONS PLEASE

A blown head gasket will give you symptoms you described. It could also explain the first leaking water pump, since a blown head gasket will over-pressurize the cooling system if your radiator cap isn't blowing off the pressure fast enough.

Why would you save it? If it's the problem (and it likely is) you're just wasting time looking for another answer. Just open the radiator cap to look for bubbles and then do a compression test to confirm or dismiss the notion.
