  • Random Stalling

    Howdy all,

My 93 Z34 has recently developed an intermittent stalling problem. On occasion, on a warm restart (after driving to a store, taking care of business and restarting) with engine at full operating temp, the old gal will just falter and constantly stall at idle unless there is some input at the pedal. This problem can ALWAYS be remedied by simply stopping, throwing it in park, turning the engine off, and starting it back up, then it runs perfectly.

I am not seeing any code except the EGR code I have been seeing for about 2 years. Other than this, the engine performs perfectly.

I have checked for the obvious loose sensor connections and have found none, finding the problem is hindered by the fact that I am not receiving any error code.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

    RE: Random Stalling

If your engine is throwing a EGR code then the EGR is either not working properly, or is receiving incorrect operating parameters, which usually means something is really bad and is a rare occurance.

Plugged passages, leak in vacuum system. Flacky fuel pump and/or relay. Bad canister purge valve (can fault EGR). Flacky throttle position sensor. Low fuel pressure at idle or high fuel pressure at idle, no deflection in fuel regulation. plugged or faulty injectors can cause stalling however will fault the ICM first, improperly set IAC with a bad TPS. Lastly a bad EGR can cause irratic operation of the engine at idle or at highway speeds. May get worse gas mileage, may get better gas mileage, stall once in awhile, or hesitate mid rpm.

You are getting a code.. An EGR code and should be taken seriously.
