MAP sensor???

  • MAP sensor???

    Just was remembering a post about a month ago over on MyMonte.com. I got into a discussion with dohcfiend about the MAP sensor (or lack thereof) on a 95 DOHC.

    I have a sensor on the backside of the plenum near (but behind/off to the side of) the vaccum junction on the pass. side of the plenum. It has a connector and a vacuum line running to it -- indicative of a MAP sensor. PartsAmerica.com, Autozone, etc all list a map sensor for a 95 3.4 DOHC.

    Dohcfiend insists that my car doesn't have a MAP sensor.

    Do I have a MAP sensor? If so, thanks for confirming that. If not, what is this sensor I'm referring to then?

    Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure that is a vacuum purge solenoid. It should have a line going down to the vacuum modulator on the tranny, one to the fuel press regulator, and one to the throttle body. I think there is one more line but I can't remember where it goes. I dont think there is a need for a MAP sensor if you have a MAF sensor. I hope this helps out a bit.

      Ok. I haven't had a chance to really look at the sensor lately, but i vaguely remember it looking like the image on partsamerica.com listed as a MAP sensor - that's why I inquired. Knew it was SOMETHING vac related tho!

        Something like that. It's not a MAP. 91-93 and 96-97 3.4's had MAP sensors though.

          After thinking about my earlier post I realized I was incorrect with the number of lines going to this sensor. Only 2 go here. The others went to the block on the side of the upper intake. The FPR and tranny line to be exact. DUH!!......

            That makes sense. I vaguely remember vac line(s) but didn't think there were THAT many going to the sensor Thanks all for clearing that up though.

              MAF take a place of a MAP, only some cars had both..

                According to my wiring diagrams 1995 and later with MAF has no MAP. Some cars may have both either by emmission requirement or by aftermarket/factory option install. 96-97 3.4's can have either/or, or both.
