  • Can't get the cam cogs aligned with the belt

I have a 1995 crate motor and I pulled one head off. Before I started I rotated the motor til I had all of the cam flats UP ( /o o\ ) and installed the hold-down fixtures. Now I have the head and cam carrier back on and
and trying to re-install the belt. Everything lined up except the cog noted by the arrow. The hold-downs have not been removed. How do I deal with this?

    RE: Can

Remove the cam gear bolt and the lock ring so that the gear can spin with the cam locked down still.

OK, that was my thought too. I loosened the bolt out 3 or 4 threads and soaked it with PB Blaster in the areas pointed to. I can't get it loose by tapping on it. What am I missing?

      Thanks.

Remove the bolt. You dont want PB blaster in that area. Remove the bolt and then you can tap the other side of the cam gear and that lock washer should come loose. Then remove the lock washer.

FWIW: I would try to use a set of air tools, since the torque spec on those cam gear bolts are like 10000 ft/lbs.

you definately want to remove the hold down tool while trying to loosen or tighten that bolt because the cam flats will move and can pop the hold-down tool out

I did get it off with a little "pursuasion". I'm always uncomfortable smacking on aluminum parts.

              Thanks all.
