  • Extreme hard starting issue

OK, this one is kind of odd... don't know if any of this stuff is related or just a coincidence.

#1 - Starter cranks normally (or sounds normal)
#2 - Engine fires after 5-6 seconds of cranking
#3 - Engine runs ok after it is started..... or so it seems
#4 - ABS light randomly comes on and does not go off til the car is restarted.
#5 - Sometimes when I accelerate the headlights dim out.
#6 - Headlights just plain act odd.. seems like they keep going between high and low beam when I put them in high, in low beam they just flicker randomly on acceleration... If I do put them in high though the bright light indicator on the dash stays on like it should.

My only guesses would be something wrong with the starter or maybe the CKP Sensor..... probably not even close though. I don't think timing is an issue though so I can pretty much rule that out. Thanks for the help.

Do you have a volt guage in your cluster? If so, does it flicker around as well? What about your interior lights, do they flicker also?

If not, take a multimeter to the battery befure, during, and after starting the vehicle and check your voltage from there.

No volt guage on cluster. and it doesn't look like the lights in the inside flicker either. I did get readings on the voltages before and after starting but don't have anyone else around at the moment to help me get them while cranking. Before running it was 12.68 volts and after starting it was 13.89 volts... only fluctuated while running and only by .01 volts back and forth.
