  • Very happy for 30 seconds.....

I finally got the car ready.

    Full rebuild.

Started car, ran great for 20 seconds.

    Turned car off.

    Checked fluids, OK.

Started again, ran great 15 seconds or so and chuchang...

    Died and no start.

Pulled cover and timing is now WAY off.

WTF, I was so friggin happy for that short time.

Sorry to hear that! You will fix it soon though, timing is a small issue. It did not knock and did not explode. Thats good.

    Here's some possible causes

    a) did not pretension the belt; after running the tensioner extended and threw off your timing
    b) misaligned your tensioner while installing it, possibly breaking the bracket it sits in, making it lose tension and go out of time
    c) didn't tighten cam cogs enough/forgot the lock rings
    d) didn't tighten idlers enough, one came loose

Does the belt have tension on it right now?

      Yes, belt has tension now.

Maybe it is a little tighter in some areas.....

Hmmmm. I think I will just re-time it and see.

      Damn the car sounded great!

I cant believe that befor this rebuild I could only change the oil!

I can't let this stop me. It is funny that my mechanic friends are scared to time this engine, but it is the only type I know how to do, I guess the pushrods are easier..

Any ways, I was worried that it wasnt getting oil and I siezed something but it does turn.

Only one cam came off timing.

Must be that it wasn't locked or something, sure feels like it is locked now.
