  • Timeing belt done but haven problems.

My timeing is right on but the belt is wearing. I look at the belt and the righting on it is almost gone. Im finding little bits of rubber on the belt. Is this normal for a new belt braking in.

If you tighten the belt too much, it will wear faster. Its normal to find some rubber hairs in there, even with 1000 miles. How many miles are on it? Is the belt rubbing on the edges of the idler pullies or getting hear the cover? If not, you should be ok.

It was runing right on the end of the cog. Im trying to work it back to the middle by pushing it over turning it over then moveing it agian. I used my torque bar and went to 20 lbs. I just put 10 miles on it. I had lots of problems. What was realy fun was that I could not losen the cam cogs. When I tried I bent the hell out of my cam locks. I had to do it all by manhandling it in to place. I also learned when you tighten the belt the crank moves 10deg past TDC. So I had to set the main cog 10deg avance or retard or what ever it was so when I tighten the belt it moved right to tdc. Took me 5 times to get that right. I had to pul the actuator and belt 5 times. So im going to keep trying to move the belt to center.

You should ad to the change guid how to reset the actuator. You stick a flat head screwdriver in the back and turn it so it moves back and stick the pin in. Dont!! use a vise or clamp it will not work it will just bend the shaft.

I reused my tensioner about 5 times now. Nothing wrong with that, though it should be changed every 120k I think. Id say 60k if you wanna take less chances but you can definetly reuse it as long as you fill it up with oil and keep the seal on the end of it.

Biger problems! I pulled all the stuff off and found the back part of the belt hanging just over the edge then it comes down a rubs on the uper idler. The front bank is closer to the middle. During the instal I mistook my shorter idler bolt for my tensioner bolt but I dont no if the shorter bolt would do anything.
