No i haven't tried to unplug it. I could but it leaked while it was plugged in. Well not the EGR itself but some where in the line to the egr it does.

I mean completely unbolt it. Reason to check egr passages.

okay i'll have to do that after i get back from IA. The only reason why I don't think I got it to leak except for when it has a load, never while idling. I'll post next week.

Unbolted the EGR and let it idle... it did so no problem, in fact the idle was high.
It was of course loud, I did not notice a vacuum nor could I see exhaust coming out of the passage.

sounds like the egr solenoid may be stuck open

The EGR valve is new... unless the slenoid is seperate from the rest of the unit.

I can't even find EGR in my GM manual so don't even have a clear idea of where exactly the system pulls from the exhaust or what else could break in it.

the idle being high leads me to believe the intake side of the passage is clear. thats good.
It was loud ....exhaust loud? If so that means the exhaust passage is clear. thats good.

Do you have anyway to scan pcm for live data?

Exhaust was loud. All I have right now is a scan tool that reads trouble codes. A fancy one but that's about all it does.

If you turn egr back off. How does it run?

Seemed to be the same with the egr off (aftermarket chip in).

I'm having my emissions tested again with the stock stat today hopefully or next week, at a shop. The guy said he would try to help me diagnoss the problem if it failed but also agreed with the stat.

Switching back to the stock stat did not help. They tested the cat it was only heating to 400* Replaced the cat and still failed but much better.

I'm going to replace the oxygen sensor and try to clean out the egr pipe. That's all else the shop had suggested.

Spent about 340usd and 50usd in tests.
