  • Few questions

Sorry if I'm rehashing anyhting, but the search function really sucks.

Ive got a 91 Z34 with 77k on the tranny/cahssis and ~35k on the motor.
I was wondering what kind of gas mileage i sohuld be seeing. Yesterday I started the car up with a little under half a tank and it was on the E by today, 70 miles later. Then again the needle likes to bounce around like a crazed crack addict, so i'm taking its indications with a grain of salt. Anyway i filled the tank today (and the needle went waaaay past the F mark.. ) so i'm going to start a log, but would I be silly to expect 28-30mpg on the highway at normal speeds (65-70mph) and aobut 20-22 in city driving? I sure hope not.

Well that's decent. Certainly better than the 13-20 my RX-7 was getting, and on premium gas nonetheless! damn turbo's.

Well, i have a 1992, with the 4T60-E tranny. IF you have an automatic the number from GM are 19 and 25 if i remember. I will look up the sticker when i get home. IF he doesn't have the E tranny he might drop 2 MPH off highway. I think i have gotten the 25 on the road, but 18 since I bought the car from my brother I think is the best city. the 96 started to get better MPH, but they also had the better engine, exhaust ports, and SFI versus the old MPI. Only way to tell for sure is to fill it up.. write the mileage (or the trip odometer) and then calculate when you fill up again.
miles/gallons (you filled up) = mpg

Another question... It seems like the exhasut has a resonance at 2100 rpm. At this RPM my hear a slight buzzing.. should I be worried?

Both of our LQ-1s get 22-24 MPG on the highway.

Every LQ1 i've ever driven has had that it's no big deal.

                As for MPG, I'm doing about 24 70%hwy 30%city

LOL, I only get 13 MPG on the highway with my DOHC. About 10 with the AC on. It has been that way as long as I had the car though. As far as the gauge though, the needle goes about a 1/4 inch past the full mark when it is totally full and once you hit the 1/2 tank mark it runs out of gas very fast (bout half as long as it took you to get it from full to 1/2 tank).

13MPG? that's piss poor dude. Theres something definetly wrong with your car with that... unless it's pushing an insane power figure and you're on the go-pedal all the time.

well so far, i think i've calculater roughly 24mpg. Meh, not what i had hoped, but its ok. There's far worse out there i guess, and for the comfort and power, i really can't complain.

Funny thing is, i was trying my damndest go get my hands on a VW turbodiesel before i fell into this car, so I'm used to seeing highway MPG ratings between 52-60, heh. I think i'm going to see how many miles i can eek out of this car....

OY. after a 11 day hiatus.. long story.. i've been driving the car again.

I put in 14 gallons when it hit E last, and now I'm about to hit E again... 250 miles later, which equates to about 17mpg And this is with about 80% highway driving.

My ex's AWD mountaineer with a 302 in got the same mileage, so i know i can improve this. I'm on a mission now. Good thing old style O2 sensors are teh cheap.

*edit* oh yeah, my 'service engine soon' light came on today on the highway for aobut a minute, so i think this may have something to do with it.
