1992 Timing belt -Tensioner Actuator

1. How can you physically tell if an actuator is faulty?

2. If the actuator is removed, can you physically compress it using your hands or a vice?

1. don't know how to tell if it is going to go bad soon

2. There is a little screw that you tighten, then put in the ol paper clip. Cant do it by hand.

3. I bought a new tensioner b/c of my miles.
