  • Where else can I be losing this much oil?

I've looked extensively over everythign for external leaks. NONE, checked camtowers, heads, intakes, mains, even the infamous o-ring is dry. It's not smoking and the exhause smells normal. But I'm still losing about a quard a week somewhere. What else can I check? I'm out of ideas. Thanks

    Dan.

There seems to be a pattern there.

With bad rings, wouldn't it be smoking at least a little though? Hope it's now since the engine was just rebuilt about 40k ago.

Any other Ideas? Keep them coming...Thanks

Its the PCV, id almost bet a lot of money on it cause its very popular. Even with a new one mine likes to eat it sometimes. I think its slowed down on my car, once I taped up the rear cam carrier PCV setup cause it was cracked. Other than a catch can, I don't really know what to say for fixing it. The catch can is going to be what I do eventually...if people stop hitting my car in parking lots anyway!

          Shit when did that happen!

Do you have any explanation why are cars suck so much oil through the PCV?

Has to be crankcase pressure or engine vacuum sucking the oil up through the PCV lines.

I was in the parking lot of advance auto pulling in. Saw a guy with a rodeo or 4 runner or something, kinda in a space. Then, as im behind him, he starts backing up, so I get on it a little and he tags my passenger side light and the metal right before it. I just need a light, paint, and buffing,as I have pushed it back out for the most part. Poor car:P

Yeah, our motors make alot fucking vacuum. You would think GM would hire better engineers.

Not to mention the engineering in our engines is about 15 years old. I mean, people were playing DOS text-adventure games and still thought they were technologically advanced.

                      *Update*

Pulled the pcv, there was a little (very little) oil residue so that could probably be where it is all going. I"m working on a couple different "catch can" ideas of my own so we'll see what happens.

The leak has slowed down though too for some reason. Havne't had to add oil in almost two weeks but i'm not holding my breath yet.

Guess you didn't fully read my first post. I had already check that... dry as a bone. Thankfully. Thanks for the help though

someone mentioned before that the lifter valley cover can crack underneith and force oil up through the pcv

something i have planned to look into if i ever pull the lower intake

                          Dr.-
Check my post not far below yours. It's called "oil consumption-problem solved." I was burning a quart every 100 miles. It was the gasket under the oil distribution plate. This is the "lifter valley cover" that Kohburn is talking about. Not too tough to change. Hope this helps.
