  • Car Must Leak, Then Burn Oil - Where to Look?

It's a 95 3.4 with 65,000 miles on it. I had oil leaking on to the driveway, switch back to dino oil from sythetic oil and solved that problem. However, I still hnotice that odor you get when oil is spilled on a hot engine component.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any advice on the likely source of the leak would be appreciated.

One time I had a leak that came from the rear cam carier cover. The gasket was bad. It was leaking oil (not alot) on the exhaust manifold and would burn up pretty quickly, so it took me forever to figure out where it was coming from.

Maybe check that. Try running your fingers along the backside of your rear carrier. You may as well check the front while your at it.

you might also look under your plenum if you can see by the throttle body. All the 3.4 just like there smaller and cheaper brothers the 2.8, 3.1 and 3400 still have the hole where a distributer would run up through them. I know i have replaced it on my 3.1 and my 92 3.4 was showing a small leak when i pulled the engine.
The cover it with an o-ring and a cap with a bolt. but you may have to look hard to see it on the drivers side under the plenum, hoses and an edge of the intake.
